Remotely Sensed Data for Disaster Response... (Pecora 2022)

Instructor: Dr. Ramesh Silvanpillai, University of Wyoming
The International Charter on Space and Major Disasters has been delivering imagery data following disasters to countries around the world. Working with the UN, space agencies from 17 countries have created an organizational network and streamlined workflows for requesting, acquiring, and delivering near real time data and derived products to agencies and organizations for planning rescue and recovery efforts. To date, the Charter has provided data and products for 770 activations (instances) in 131 countries. This lecture-based workshop will provide an overview of the history, requesting remotely sensed data for a disaster, and the role of project manager in overseeing the entire operation. This workshop will benefit those who might be interested in contributing to the disaster response by generating products derived from remotely sensed imagery.
